BALL PARK MUSIC JOIN GTM AFTER INTERNATIONAL CANCELLATION

Groovin The Moo organisers have made an amendment to their line-up this morning, with internationals Chiddy Bang pulling out and Brisbane’s Ball Park Music added to the bill.

A press release read, “Unfortunately they have chosen to cancel their Australian commitments preferring to focus on new TV and radio promotional opportunities for their upcoming album in the USA.”

The festival’s promoter Stephen Halpin commented this morning, “To replace an act on the festival at this late stage is very difficult, so we are extremely grateful to have an act of the calibre of Ball Park Music join the tour at such short notice.

“Yes it’s annoying that Chiddy Bang have chosen to cancel but Ball Park Music are a fantastic live act and deserve all their current success.”

In a virtually unprecedented move for a festival, they ‘appreciate’, “that there may be people who have purchased tickets especially to see Chiddy Bang.”

They are offering refunds for those people from 9am Monday 27 February until 5pm Friday 2 March through Moshtix.

Last year, and on the back of their debut album Happiness & Surrounding Suburbs, Ball Park Music were dubbed triple j’s Unearthed Artist Of The Year.

OUR SOUNDWAVE PLAYLIST

Warm up in your bedroom with our Soundwave playlist, with everyone from System Of A Down to The Used to Circa Survive.

Created courtesy of Rdio, we went with our favourite Norweigan party-starters Kvelertak to kick things off. Soundwave’s chucked in a few new locals this year, so Tonight Alive and Dream On, Dreamer feature as well. (We wanted to put Heroes For Hire in for lols, but it wouldn’t let us).

How could we forget the song that soundtracked the romatic experiences of hundreds of thousands of 14-year-old boys and girls – The Used’s Blue & Yellow? Thursday’s Counting 5-4-3-2-1 may have even been used as a break-up consolation a few years later.

We really hope System Of A Down play P.L.U.C.K and if Dredg don’t play Catch Without Arms, we’re walking home.

FUTURE'S DIE ANTWOORD REVEAL TRUTH BEHIND LABEL CHANGE

The unnerving Uncle Jimmy skit on Die Antwoord’s new album Ten$ion is based on their old label boss, the band told Your Daily SPA.

The controversial South African ‘rap rave’ outfit drop their second album Ten$ion in Australia this weekend, before arriving for the Future Music Festival in March.

The record comes after they split with their label last year claiming that Interscope were too involved in their new direction.

Vocalist Ninja said that the mid-album satirical skit Uncle Jimmy, where ‘Uncle Jimmy’ entices band member Yo-Landi Vi$$er to sit on his lap and stay in his office so he can ‘keep her as a pet’, is based on a real person – Interscope Records boss Jimmy Iovine.

“Yeah Jimmy Iovine, from Interscope, the boss of Interscope,” he said. “I can do Jimmy real good, that was actually me, I know it sounds like Jimmy but it’s actually me.

“Jimmy always used to like ask us in for herbal tea and stuff and ask Yo-Landi to sit on his knee and stuff and make little cute jokes at us all the time. So we thought it was quite funny to put in a skit.”

He continued, “And then he didn’t want to put the skit on the album, and that’s why we left Interscope. We were like, ‘That’s lame. We’re leaving your label now. Bye.’ That’s why we left Interscope, because they wouldn’t put Uncle Jimmy on the album.”

Ninja said that he doesn’t know what Iovine thinks of the track since it made the album, “He doesn’t speak to us anymore, I don’t take his calls”.

“[The skit] was funky, it was fresh. As I said for us it was like the greatest skit in the history of hip hop music. When we made it it was like, ‘Fuck this is funny’ and like cool and shit, memorable.

“People would be talking about it, we knew if we put it on it would be popular with the kids when they were like, ‘Oh, we’re not putting that on’, we were like, ‘OK, you’re not our label, bye’.

You can hear the Uncle Jimmy sketch at theMusic.com.au’s stream of the album here

The record will be released tomorrow (Friday 10 February) through Co-Operative.

Details on their shows are here.

SPLENDOUR RETURNS TO OLD BYRON BAY LOCATION

Splendour In The Grass have announced this morning that they’re moving back to Byron Bay – but not the new Parkland’s they’ve been pushing for.

The festival – which didn’t sell out last year – has been held in Queensland’s Woodfordia for the last two years but organisers announced today it would return to Byron’s Belongil Fields, where it was held previous to the Queensland move.

Splendour In The Grass producers Jessica Ducrou and Paul Piticco are part owners in North Byron Parklands’ Yelgun site and have been pushing for a festival development proposal on that site for more than two years. The final decision is“being deliberated now”:http://themusic.com.au/newsletter/4117/cries-of-shame-at-splendour-hearing and may be an option for the 2013 event.

Today the festival also announced that it will be held Friday 27, Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 July this year.

Ducrou said today that “Despite great efforts to have the festival at North Byron Parklands this year, we are yet to have a determination on the application.

“In the meantime and after much consideration we are excited at the prospect of returning to the birth place of Splendour… Taking the event back to Byron Bay allows us to give our audience the true Splendour experience, a quality music and arts festival combined with that distinctive Byron culture.”

The financial injection that the festival will provide to Byron Bay’s community may even sway some of the locals, who have recently shown opposition to the Yelgun development.

Byron Shire Mayor Jan Barham said today, “Splendour’s home is Byron Bay and there is defined benefit that the festival delivers to the area, especially in winter, so it is a welcome return.”

Ducrou also thanked Woodfordia and the Moreton Bay Regional Council for the past two years.
