Port O'Brien

Alaska act best known for "I Woke Up Today", their album from this year “All We Could Do Was Sing” includes lush string arrangements, raw electric guitar, percussive banjo, pots and pans, as well as group chants. Based around the talents of Van Pierszalowski and Cambria Goodwin, Port O’Brien drew their inspiration in the long hours spent out at sea and baking bread. Literally. Every summer, Van worked on his father’s fishing boat, The Shawnee, on Kodiak Island in Alaska. The work was exhausting and the weather could have been better, but the contrast between the serenity of the wilderness and the rigourous labour generated quite a bit of musical inspiration. Meanwhile, back on land, C ambria also wrote music while maintaining her position as Head Baker at Larsen Bay, Alaska. Her days were often longer and just as tiresome. The culmination of all this toil resulted in All We Could Do Was Sing, because let’s face it - when you are stuck out at sea or in front of a hot oven, what else is there to do?

Jill and Matthew Barber

BarberCanadian siblings both well known singer songwriters in their own right, play a pun titling their tour “Sibling Revelry”.

Since the release of her Canadian debut album Oh Heart in 2004, the once shy Jill Barber has received high accolades from her peers and critics alike and become an award winning (and multi-award nominated) artist back in her homeland. Jill’s first Australian album release is the stunning For All Time, and is out now through Code One/MGM.

Older brother Matthew has proved to be a credible indie folk/rock artist since his first release five years ago. In that time, with 3 albums and an EP under his belt, he tasted commercial success but soon etched his way back to his indie roots and delivered, so far, the best release of his career with current album Ghost Notes. Barber has toured consistently through Canada, supported the likes of Chris Isaak, Joel Plaskett, and Buck 65 among others. After picking up a record deal in the UK in 2007, he went on to play solo shows throughout Ireland, the UK, Netherlands and Germany. Ghost Notes is the first Australian release through Code One/MGM.
